This redefined food war.
A restaurant in China was reduced to tears after a wild shrimp turned its table at a hotpot restaurant, as seen in a TikTok video with nearly 5 million views.
In the video taken at an undisclosed facility, the epicure can be seen trying to submerge the live crustacean in a pot of other seafood.
However, the sharp shrimp suddenly jumps out of her hand, delaying her execution via bouillabaisse.
His crude revenge is short-lived, however, as the determined diner catches the fugitive with sticks.
That’s when the food decides to fight back: After grabbing the slithery stickleback a second time, the creature latches onto its hand and strikes it with one of its predatory forearms, causing it to scream in agony.
Fortunately, an off-screen employee manages to remove the locusts from the wailing woman. The clip ends with the foodie crying in pain over the “Beetlejuice”-like incident.
TikTok users found her spitting shrimp very amusing with a caption, “shrimp said you hurt me, I hurt you.”
“Good for that shrimp !! He wouldn’t go out without a fight,” said another of the right-wing hotpot’s constituents.
Others identified the creature as a mantis shrimp, a predatory crustacean known for catching and dispatching prey with its large prehensile claws—hence the name.
There are two types: spearers, which impale soft-bodied prey such as fish and worms, and shredders, which rip apart snails and crabs by karate-smashing them with their hammer-like appendages.
Smashers have enough power in their fist to break glass.
Meanwhile, the spears can reportedly amputate a human finger, earning it the moniker “thumb splitter” — as reported by Jam Press, the unfortunate restaurant in question.
If that wasn’t enough of a predation deterrent, the mantis shrimp also boasts rows of hook-shaped spikes on their carapace like a chitin cheese grater.
Despite their extreme armament, mantis shrimps are eaten throughout Asia, where they are prized for their sweet, lobster-like meat.
